An enthralling setting of Rumi’s poetry by Sahba Aminika. Extensive monitoring across the stage delivered the string orchestra across the stage. Hanging area mics captured the chorus in various staging arrangements, both while moving and stationary. Narration was set within the full choral and string texture, augmented by a playback layer in sync via click track. Yamaha M7CL, QLab 5.

Composed by Sahba Aminika; Choregraphed by Joy Bollinger; Lighting Design by Christopher Mount;

The riveting yet haunting opera by Missy Mazzoli. Reduced orchestration veiled behind gorgeous silks fully immersed an audience in sound and imagery. The challenges of a steep, in-the-round configuration in an acoustically dead black box were overcome by selective amplification and staging conversations early on in the production process, with “quite the tasteful reverb”. Yamaha TF5, Lexicon MPX1, QLab 5.

Composed by Missy Mazzoli; Directed by Claire Choquette; Conducted by Sam Brukhman; Scenic Design by Justin Locklear;

The minimalist and hypnotic experience by Michael Gordon. Each vocalist was captured with their own condenser mic. The challenge of amplifying and supporting a vocal ensemble in a completely treated Cinemark theater was overcome with cross-ensemble monitoring and on-board reverb. Allen and Heath dLive.

Mis-Lead

Verdigris Ensemble - 2024
Dallas, TX

Live Sound Mix & Recording Engineer

Mis-Lead reflects the impacts of the lead smelting industry right at home in West Dallas. While a more traditional choral concert in form, the Kalita Humphreys Theater certainly was not designed to be an acoustically live space for classical music. Area microphones with specific spots captured by boundary microphones gave me full control to capture a clear image for both the group and soloists, while augmenting their work with warm, naturalistic reverb.

Composed by Kirsten Soriano; Conducted by Sam Brukhman; Projection Design by Courtney Ware

Dust Bowl

Verdigris Ensemble - 2024
Dallas, TX

System Design; Live Sound Mix & Recording Engineer

Previously in development as part of AT&T Performing Arts Center’s Elevator Project series, Dust Bowl was an impactful and immersive mixed-media experience devised around source material and testimony from the dust bowl. This was the ensemble’s first foray into a fully produced theatrical experience. I brought my thorough Broadway-style live audio process to the expedited tech process and weekend run.

Composed by Anthony J Maglione; Libretto by Ron Witzke;

Directed by Claire Choquette; Conducted by Sam Brukhman; Scenic Design by Michaela Bottari; Projection Design by Courtney Ware

Album Producer

I served a support role in recording the live performance as a hand in this Honors Thesis project. I oversaw the recording of the live performance and edited the resulting audio. All producing and editing done in REAPER with a wonderful impulse response of the Armstrong Browning Library.

Orchestrator

Collaborating with Meredith has been the meshing of two relentless and like minds. Songwriter and Arranger combined, Meredith was the one coming up with melodies and hooks, while I filled in harmonies and progressions. This was an opportunity to flesh out and showcase the skills we had developed in our undergrad.

Musical by Meredith Marcum

Baylor VirtuOSO

Baylor School of Music - 2019 - 2022

I continue to learn alongside the vocalists in achieving a front-of-house mix that transforms their voices to the many genres the A Capella / Jazz Vocal ensemble performs. VirtuOSO has also begun endeavors into university outreach and collaboration with other on-campus disciplines.

Live Mixer & Producer

The world of A Capella live vocals has evolved tremendously within the last decade, adopting techniques and the aural soundscapes of Pop studio production. I continue to experiment with ways to elevate live vocals to such an impactful level, while adjusting to different environments.

A/V Designer & Technician

Concert production and show design play a role in our more experimental shows. LED fixtures and projections augment our arrangements.

Sound Designer

It was a learning experience to learn how to patch into Zoom with some clever audio routing manipulation. You can see at the top of the QLab session that there are mic cues. Those cues are hot-keyed to turn my microphone on and off so I could talk during tech rehearsals. All filters and effects to tracks and sounds are done in QLab through the Apple Audio Plugin Suite.

Composer

Yoon really gravitated towards the motif found in the intro to Hillsong’s "I Surrender", so I extrapolated and arranged it to fit the world of the play, and formatted it to be heard over computer speakers. Throughout the play, the motif recurs, but with different textures, progressions, and ending cadences to transition from one scene to the next, or to underscore scenes.
